The old Communication's Course known as the Comm Course was the most popular and effective introductions to Scientology in history. It stands along with the older HQS Course as one of the giants among introductory services that were the workhorses of basic Scientology. In 1972 my mother introduced me into Scientology and the Comm Course. This course changed my life for real. From a shy, drug taking, music obsessed, long haired hippy freak I changed into an alert person, interested in others, wanting to help them. (This being something I continued to do since.)
This course made me go in contact with the life around me again. After that course, my notes in school became superb - because I was there and alert. And because I was there and alert I could ask questions and make sure I understand what the teacher was talking about. And because I understood it my notes in school went up and up.
This course was tough. I had to pass two hours of each of the first drills and everything else than doing the drill was cause for the course supervisor to start the clock again. I was on this course for more than tree months. It was pure hell. It was exactly what I needed. It saved my life. I loved it.

Being able to arrive and be there in life, sounds simple but the very essence and simplicity of this is spectacular.

The Comm Course was my first Scientology service, done on a weekend in the fall of 1967. Just the basic TRs (0 through 4, OT TR0 was not out yet). By the time I was finished on Sunday night, I was totally blown out and stayed that way for another week or two. All of this for the grand sum of $15.

I did this in the early 70s, we did TRS 0 to 4 and some Upper Level Indoctrination TRs too. Two weeks of evening classes; there were a couple of uni students, some old-time Scientologists getting back on lines, a housewife and a businessman. We had a great time getting through each TR and winning on each one. Coaching, and bullbaiting, was a big part of the fun! This wasn't TRs for use in auditing - it was understood that on the Academy Levels we'd have to get TRs in to a professional standard. It was TRs for the public to use in life, but still coached "rough, rough" just as LRH specified.

None that I can see. Maybe it could be slightly too tough for some of today's public, who have been taught to expect drugs and sympathy.

The 'comm course' was a real eye-opener to Scientology for me. I was always someone interested in self-improvement and while I had learned many things from reading books, never experienced the immediate skills and benefits comparable to this cheap, little course! It was a 'life-changing' experience for me. I think my communication skills were quite good before, but perhaps like most people, were rather 'two-dimentional'. The comm course breaks it all down and focuses on parts that I do not imagine most people are even aware of! Frankly, I could write an essay on the components that I learned make up this most vital skill needed by everyone, because I became so keenly aware that this was a course required for everyone. If you want to improve your communication with others, this course is a MUST requirement for any age.
Cons
The only caveat is that the friendly organization known as the "Church of Scientology" has degenerated into something very different from what I gt involved with years ago. I highly recommend the courses as vital, but cannot say the same about the official organization now.
