Author
L. Ron Hubbard

Modern Management Technology Defined (1976): but Scientologists have always called it the "Admin Dictionary." It was first published in 1976 and has never been updated. Indispensable for anyone studying Scientology as applied to groups, also known as "Green on White" or "Admin," It defines terms by quoting from various LRH issues and recorded lectures. It also contains a sub dictionary valuable definitions for abbreviations commonly found in LRH issues, a compilation of organization boards used through three decades, along with a long list of every issue and book LRH wrote on the subject of Scientology. 690 pages.

I used to have this book. Bought it back in 1977, when I was on Staff. It was an amazing tool to
unlock the meaning of Scientology Admin Terms. It got lost somewhere, wish I had it today. If I find one in a used bookstore I am going to buy it.

From it's original release, I always called Modern Management Technology Defined the "Admin Dictionary." The full name of the book was far too cumbersome!

The "Admin Dictionary" became part and parcel of study on administrative policies and was so useful. As with the Technical Dictionary, one could not only look up the word to find the definition(s), but if one had an idea of the word, one could use it as a reverse reference to find the policy.

Back in the day, no bookshelf was complete without the Admin Dictionary. But, alas, I no longer have one and I miss it!

I have used "project dictionaries" in various course rooms, but the difficulty with these is that they become filled with Standard American words which are off-topic to either the Technical or Admin dictionaries. I believe a student should study with a technical, administrative and general dictionary. The "admin dictionary" filled a big gap when it was released!

I just like looking up words, i.e. Dev-T, developed traffic. By reading it I understand what slows me down sometimes and then I can handle it.

The 1976 Admin dictionary is old but still perfectly functional. It has a LOT of terms including abbreviations that you can't define anywhere else. Its focus is definitely more on "Green on White" which means LRH Policy or administrative terms. There is a separate "Technical Dictionary" for auditing tech. But in most studies of Scientology, you will run into admin terms and need to get them defined. So you need one of these.

The editors also thought fit to include a smattering of normal marketing terms, as I recall someone (I think LRH) thought maybe non Scientologists might use the dictionary as regular business dictionary and if so, they might gain an interest in Scientology along the way. I doubt that ever happened, but no real harm done in trying I suppose.

As for readability, it's not bad but could be a bit nicer. This whole book could be upgraded — I'd recommend thinner, whiter, but not heavier paper. I personally would NOT want to try to study Admin Tech without this dictionary by my side. It does make the going quite a bit easier. And of course any study of LRH tech or policy is infinitely worthwhile.

I did a marketing campaign for the publishing of a new Scientology dictionary in the mid 1990s. The manuscript was almost there. It included both tech and admin terms in one book — smart. Of course, since every student NEEDS a good Scientology dictionary to study Scientology, LRH set the priority for a dictionary to a high. It is a sad comment on David Miscavige that the new dictionary is still not done, despite the fact that other books and courses have been released, re-released and even re-re-released during the same time. Obviously he is only paying lip service to the necessity of training auditors.

Pros and Cons (optional)

Pros
Comprehensive, not too heavy (unlike the idiotically heavy What is Scientology? or the Scientology Handbook), a must for anyone studying Scientology — you can't do without an Admin Dictionary.
Cons
Could be even more comprehensive, with more abbreviations, more org boards, and not quite so many non-Scientology terms. In some cases these just clutter up the page in my opinion.
