I had the good fortune to go through a large portion of the book with a independent professional auditor Haydn James, who helped me understand the significance of each list. I now feel able to address the remainder and to get the same high power results. I started on this book because of some problems back in the 1970's and the "quicky" grade program in place at the time. I got more accomplished in a week than the many intensives bought at the time. Many thanks to my auditor they really are the best people on the planet.

Pros
If you want to grease the wheels of the time track so to speak this book is for you. You can do this at your own pace, with a twin partner ,or with the help of an auditor. The book also has the ability to enhance your memory in this lifetime or any other. Powerful yet simplicity all rolled into one great little volume.
Cons
This book has you outflow an immense amount of mental mass and can leave you tired. Exercises of the mind are taxing and the remedy I found out through my auditor was havingness! Any extended outflow like speaking, mathmatics, or even physical exercise causes your body to feel wiped out. So you have to do things to remedy the absense of havingness; go outside look at many things in your enviroment while taking a break.

My own Self Analysis was done as part of Expanded ARC S/W around 1973, and is detailed in that review. Around 1990 as Staff Courses Practical Sup in the Hollywood Guarantee Building I supervised the HQS Course for a couple of dozen new staff when it was on their training line-up, and Self Analysis was part of it. The checksheet included two lists, and they ended up averaging about 10-15 hours, co-audited. Almost all of the students had neither done nor received any auditing before.
Self Analysis is ideal for this kind of first approach. Some rudimentary TRs and theory/drilling of key auditing basics, and bang, into session! Good stuff if you're keen on Scientology.
It can also be audited from the book at home by oneself. The line that it is "not solo auditing, it is Hubbard auditing the person" is rubbish, as quite honestly, almost any Scientology procedure can effectively (but not approved by Hubbard) be solo audited if you are a good enough auditor. Still, if "solo auditing" is defined in such a way as to only include the things one is "supposed" to solo audit, then it becomes impossible by definition. Ahem. But I digress. Self Analysis is allowed solo auditing right at the beginning of Scientology, although you're not allowed to call it by that name, and you're supposed to believe that Hubbard is auditing you through the pages of the book.

The wins can cause one to mistakenly think that Scientology as a whole is a good thing.

So so easy to audit. No formal training required. In fact I did it with a "twin" but even this isn't necessary - it can be done straight from the book. One of the many things I noticed while going along on thsi auditing was my memory, short and long term, was improving.
But most of all it was just good old fashioned fun! I mean laugh-out-loud funny and fun.

None really. Some of the items on the lists seemed a bit obscure or irrelevant at the time, but the beauty of it is you just skip over those that don't have any interest attached to them.
