Self Analysis (August 1951): Possibly the best introduction to the subjects of Dianetics and Scientology. Self Analysis contains both a series of essays on the basic discoveries Ron had made up to this point in his research as well as an extensive auditing section that a person can do by themselves right at home. The book contains a special version of the Hubbard Chart of Human Evaluation and a series of tests one can do to discover where you're really at. Then, by applying the processes from the second half of the book, one is guided through a path of self-discovery. At the end, you will re-do the tests to confirm your improvement. How good can you get? These techniques have been in use for more than six decades and Ron referred to them again and again throughout his research, stating that the processes here were capable of curing any neurosis.
This is the starting point for anyone wanting auditing. You will be audited by L. Ron Hubbard himself through the pages of this book.

As a staff member I struggled with what I felt was suppression from a senior who often dramatized low tone communication. I knew that she was not a suppressive person as I had witnessed many social personalities as well and had often admired her as an individual. Nonetheless, I found it difficult to maintain my own beingness with her in my environment and neither of us were going to be going away. I was told to do the PTS/SP course which was where I read this book. While reading the chapter titled, The Laws of Affinity, Reality and Communication I got so blown out by the simple truths in each sentence. Literally, I could only read a few sentences and would get so blown out that I just couldn't go on any more. I'd come back the next day and read a few more sentences and then BOOM, outta my head again. This went on for a week with the result of rekindling and amplifying my understanding of ARC and my ability to maintain my own beingness.
When I left the church in 2006 I kept three books at my bedside and read them again and again. They were Intro to Scientology Ethics, 88008 and Science of Survival and they helped me define my desire to practice the philosophy sans the church.
