I worked at Saint Hill from 1972-1986. The grounds are gorgeous, they really are. I used to spend lunchtimes down by the lake feeding the swans in the 80s, and after a year of daily visits literally had them eating out of my hands (vice-like beaks!). The tech while I was there wasn't bad, and there were lots of students in the 70s, especially in the summer although not so many in the winter. I last visited in 2003, before I had been declared. The grounds looked even better than before. I think if one is a Scientologist in the UK and relatively nearby it is definitely worthwhile to take a visit and see the places that Hubbard talks about (the chapel, the solarium where he grew the famous tomatoes, the manor, etc). But leave your wallet and any ID behind!

My numerical votes are for how I believe things are today from reports I have read, not according to how things were when I was there.

"Ron's home" but would he feel at home there now?

Pros
St Hill Manor and grounds are beautiful, few would deny that. The Manor has been rennovated to a high standard and it's possible to get a tour - if you are "in good standing" with the Church of Scientology.
Cons
Security is overbearing. There are cameras everywhere creating a somewhat hostile atmosphere. The Manor and grounds are listed as an official tourist attraction, or "brown signs" attraction - which theoretically makes it accessible to any member of the public without prior booking. However in my recent experience (October 2012) this is not actually the case - evidence on video.

As far as the services being offered I don't have much recent data - I do know of several people who have discontinued their services at "AOSH UK" as it is known, due to technical incompetence, but this is anecdotal only. Personally I would be reluctant to recommend anyone take services there if a competent Independent alternative is locally available, since the IAS is active at St Hill, meaning one will get constant harassment for "donations" for spurious purposes. Equally one will get asked regularly and intensely, for other "donations" for all sorts of things that have no relevance to one's spiritual journey - or may impede such journey. There is also considerable evidence that supposedly "preist/penitent" confidential information is not as secure as it should be, or could even be culled from confidential counselling folders for whatever purpose. For this and other reasons I am unable to recommend St Hill as a safe place to get Scientology services.
