Book Details

Author
L. Ron Hubbard

Handbook for Preclears (December 1951): This book is a companion to Advanced Procedure and Axioms. Handbook for Preclears contains 15 Acts of self-processing that parallel the Fifteen Acts in APA. HFP contains explanations for such situations as why behavior patterns become fixed, why habits seemingly persist and why decisions made long ago have more apparent power than ones made in the present. Ron lays these out on the Chart of Attitudes that complements the Chart of Human Evaluation and outlines an ideal state of being. The processing actions are used in conjunction with the techniques from Self Analysis.

Pros and Cons (optional)

Pros
Lots of great data regarding the goal of man. What the brain and mind are about. great stuff on life. And great auditing actions to do on self or with another auditor. Great next book after reading and doing the actions on self thru Self Analysis.
Cons
Not sure about earlier or later editions but edition of 2007 has a publishers error regarding a reference to the definition of a PRECLEAR page number. in the editors glossay in the back of the book for the definition of preclear. it says to see FIFTEEN from (LRH glossary) page 1. Actually the page number is 299 of the book.

Bottom line...

This is a companion volume to Advanced Procedure and Axioms covering the same 15 acts of processing that would take a case to the highest level available in December 1951, but this time from the inside viewpoint of a preclear. It was LRH's second self-processing book, intended as a cheaply-printed workbook that an auditor could give to the preclear as homework. Don't be fooled by the clear, simple language: this book is a precision tool developed by LRH's intensive research to build a better bridge. Dianetics had come a long way from Book One, with the preclear now able to explore the current lifetime track and isolate the relatively few things that needed to be run by an auditor.

I've never audited the processes in this book, but had plenty of cognitions from studying the theory on the service facsimile, the emotional curve, responsibility and sympathy. And this is the book where the life continuum is first discussed. It will help your understanding of Advanced Procedure and Axioms because LRH gives examples of the principles introduced in that book, and explains exactly what the preclear should do while assuming no previous experience of Dianetics.

Pros and Cons (optional)

Pros
Easy to understand, and will immediately put a new preclear into session with LRH.
Cons
Should be seen in its context as an advanced Dianetics book written before the big breakthrough of Scientology.
