Book Details

Author
L. Ron Hubbard

Dianetics: The Original Thesis (1948): This is Ron's earliest written description of Dianetics, written in 1948. He published a few manuscript copies and handed them out and others made their own copies and passed them from hand to hand. Based on the ensuing demand for more information, in 1950 he then wrote Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health. The Original Thesis contains his first written description of auditing and how and why it works. Here is his first statement of the three laws behind the workability of auditing therapy. Originally circulated in manuscript form as Abnormal Dianetics, it was first published in 1951 as The Original Thesis. In the late 1980s it was renamed Dynamics of Life but the name has since been reverted.

This is a book everyone should read just to get a education on the subject.

As a child and a young adult I always wanted to have a clear understanding of any subject I ran into. If you read this book, you will get a clear understanding of the subject in just the few hours it takes to read it.

Essential reading for all, and especially if you want to follow LRH's research line from the beginning. The writing is very lucid.

I recommend reading the 2007 edition first, as it restores several of LRH's original chapters that had been omitted from all earlier editions. Chapter 14 on the clear was the Wow! moment for me, it makes a vital point about clear and what LRH would later call valences. On the other hand, the new edition lacks the case histories that were found in at least some earlier editions so these are worth searching out for additional background information.

And another gem that I've just spotted. p.19, LRH defines consciousness as the awareness of "now".

Pros
The primary Source document on the science of Dianetics.

Not directly usable to audit a preclear, as the tech has moved on since it was written.

This book is a good place to come to grips with the core ideas in the development of Dianetics. It describes very simply and clearly the foundational concepts of Dianetics, and as an early genesis, maps out the four dynamics of existence, which were later expanded to include further dimensions. For anyone struggling to understand the book Dianetics: The modern science of mental health, I would strongly recommend reading this book first, in order to grasp the core concepts before going onto the more expanded and developed ideas in the later book.

This book is THE book anyone who wants to be introduced to the subject should acquire. It is easy to read, fun to read, and will give anyone a very good introduction to the basics of what Dianetics is, and what it can do, and just how vital it may be to get further involved in the subject. Anyone can get through this book in a matter of a few hours at most, and once done, can decide with understanding if they want to continue or not.
